Our weekly blog series highlighting the women that inspire us
Speaker, Business Strategist and Founder, The Collective (of Us)
RIGHT NOW: WHERE ARE YOU, WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON, AND WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE ITEM YOU’RE WEARING?
In my living room working on the revised curriculum for members of The Collective (of Us) wearing cotton printed shorts and a simple 3/4 sleeve t-shirt and a gold necklace with a piece of quartz and a mini brass Ganesha.
SUM UP YOUR STYLE IN ONE SENTENCE.
Too many accessories, too many ridiculous prints, and too much color (though lately I’ve been falling hard for black and heathered grey).
WHAT INSPIRES YOU ABOUT THE WORK YOU DO?
Women igniting the world on fire with their businesses.
HOW DO YOU LIVE ‘MINDFULLY?’
I meditate, have a yoga practice and live in the community of others by continuously sharing, whether it be sharing our home through gatherings or sharing wisdom and advice through social media. Mindfully is the lens I see the larger world (and my work) through.
WHAT’S THE FIRST THING YOU DO WHEN YOU WAKE UP?
I start by drinking an ACV (apple cider vinegar) shot as soon as I wake up <3
WHAT DOES YOUR MORNING ROUTINE LOOK LIKE?
ACV shot and a glass of water. I sit quietly for a few minutes to contemplate what ever thoughts I woke up, then I throw on a long denim jacket over my loungewear / PJ’s and walk to my local cafe for a coffee outside, alone. If I’m feeling crazy, I might even get a scone. I come home, have a light bite to eat (I can’t eat a big breakfast) and sit at my desk to begin. **NOTE: I wish I said I wake up at 5 am, practice yoga for an hour daily and then go for an hour run before eating breakfast but alas’, that woulda’ been a big fat lie!
WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO WORKOUT?
YOGA but that’s not exactly what I would call a workout.
WHAT’S THE ONE ITEM OF CLOTHING YOU WEAR THE MOST?
The aforementioned long denim jacket (or a short one) or a denim shirt depending on the bottoms I’m wearing.
WHAT DO YOU DO TO KEEP YOUR LIFE (AND CLOSET!) A LEAN, MEAN, CLUTTER-FREE MACHINE?
For every new or used item of clothing I bring into our home, I try ( mostly successfully) to donate one that I already have to the local Housing Works. Otherwise, I can easily collect way too much shit for our small but awesome apartment.
YOU’RE A BUSY BABE. HOW DO YOU BALANCE WORK, HEALTH, AND YOUR RELATIONSHIPS?
I own my business and prioritize work hours. Evenings and weekends are for personal time with my husband, our friends and anything else I’d like to do. With that said, I also give myself the freedom to work in the evening if that means I can spend time with people that matter during my day. Separating work time and personal time is critical when you own a business.
WHAT PODCASTS OR BLOGS DO YOU KEEP UP WITH?
Blogs: Design Sponge is the only one I read occasionally. My taste in podcasts range but I love Levar Reads + Snap Judgement for storytelling, Peter’s Podcast for Yoga and Philosophy, Kind World for good news, How I Built This + Emerging Women for founder’s stories and Magic Lessons for inspiration.
WHO DO YOU ADMIRE?
I admire the various people that I surround myself with from all walks of life, backgrounds, and opinions. They keep me grounded and in touch with what matters most.
FAVORITE SPOTS FOR A HEALTHY MEAL?
Baba Cool in Ft. Greene, Brooklyn.
WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?
“This, too, shall pass.” No matter how good or bad something may seem; that too shall pass. This prevents me from clinging to my successes or my losses and failures because I know that each is incredibly temporary, and doesn’t define me.
WHITE HOT LIGHTENING ROUND– GO!
HEELS OR FLATS? Flats
BUSINESS OR CASUAL? Casual
EARLY MORNINGS OR LATE NIGHTS? Early mornings
NEW YORK OR LA? New York
COFFEE, TEA, OR MATCHA? Coffee
