Our weekly blog series highlighting the women that inspire us
Head of Social, Tribeca Film Festival
RIGHT NOW: WHERE ARE YOU, WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON, AND WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE ITEM YOU’RE WEARING?
I’m on my couch (yay!) working on a few items for our festival. It’s a month away, so I pretty much work around the clock now. I’m wearing this super comfy long sleeve jersey shirt that I bought at the newly opened National Museum of African American History and Culture. I camped out at 4 am in the cold to get inside, and it was worth every minute. This shirt makes me feel wrapped up in culture, and I wear it often.
SUM UP YOUR STYLE IN ONE SENTENCE.
I would identify my style as “Comfortably Dressy”.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU ABOUT THE WORK YOU DO?
Good, bad or indifferent, social media has the power to change lives via its unfiltered and diverse stream of voices, words, ideas, images, video, etc. Having an intimate knowledge of how social media works means I can meaningfully help amplify the streams that I think are making the most positive and inclusive changes. How exciting! But also, what serious and worthy days work.
HOW DO YOU LIVE ‘MINDFULLY?’
I’m at my best and most mindful when I’m living in a state of gratitude. Reminding myself how blessed I am through affirmations, prayer, conversations with friends/family or even a quick check of all of my privileges keeps me centered.
WHAT’S THE FIRST THING YOU DO WHEN YOU WAKE UP?
The downside of being in charge of prominent social media accounts is the lowkey 24/7 anxiety. The first thing I do is check each account I oversee to make sure all is well.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO GET READY IN THE MORNING?
It depends on my hair! 45 minutes on an average day but then every three days or so I have a pretty extensive hair washing routine to refresh my curls 🙂
WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO WORKOUT?
If I had my choice- pilates. Often I end up in yoga because there’s always a class that works into my schedule.
WHAT DO YOU DO TO KEEP YOUR LIFE (AND CLOSET!) A LEAN, MEAN, CLUTTER-FREE MACHINE?
I wish I had a better answer for this, but the truth is my life collects a lot of crazy because I’m so busy. The things that work the best for me are turnkey solutions that don’t take a lot of personal energy and let the folks who know better do what they do. Though they stretch my budget a bit, it’s worth the sanity they provide. So my cleaning woman gets the credit for any organization in my closet. My meal delivery service makes sure I eat well and on-time. Thank God for my storage facility who comes to my house, picks up my items and logs them on my mobile app so I can hit one button and as them to bring anything else I need back. ClassPass ensures that I can always find a class that fits into my schedule. The list is endless!
YOU’RE A BUSY BABE. HOW DO YOU BALANCE WORK, HEALTH, AND YOUR RELATIONSHIPS?
For me balance looks a bit different. I think of it much more in the long-term than short. There are a few months of every year that work is paramount. I lean into that and am honest with my friends, family, and body that I’ll see them in a few months when things settle down. When things are less busy, I take a deep dive into my relationships or work out routine. Or when a friend or family is in need I may invest more time and energy there and spread myself thinner with others. Life is unpredictable, and you have to ride the waves. Plus I like to think it all evens out in the wash.

WHO DO YOU ADMIRE?
There are two people who come to mind first. 1. A friend in my head, Ava DuVernay: she’s navigated her career into so many different spaces while still staying so true to what she believes in. Her journey makes me hopeful for mine. 2. Friend (and bestie) in real life, Danielle: She’s a badass for many reasons but the way she navigates through life’s tough spots is beyond human. Her spirit and goodness are untouchable, and it gives me a benchmark for what it can look like.

COMPLETE THIS SENTENCE: LIVING INTENTIONALLY MEANS… not forgetting to intentionally carve out time for the important things.
